Kasthuri joined the 2016 preschool class of Shanti Bhavan at age 3 and half. Her mother was not legally married when she had Kasthuri. The father refused to support the child since it was not legally his. He abandoned the mother and Kasthuri leaving the mother to support herself and her child alone with no job. Her mother could not cope and wanted to get rid of her illegitimate child, so she left Kasthuri at the doorstep of an orphanage. Kasthuri was abandoned, left unwanted by both of her biological parents. The orphanage found her the next morning and decided they could take her in.
They immediately went to the nearby hospital where Kasthuri was granted a birth certificate by the doctors and given the name she uses now. She was raised in the orphanage for the next 3 years until the owner of the orphanage discovered a school, Shanti Bhavan, that took in children like Kasthuri, a child with infinite potential born into a life with no foreseeable hope. Kasthuri was very shy at first and unresponsive to the housemothers and aunties. She was afraid of yet another new home, never having understood fully the feeling of security and nurturing. Kasthuri has now been with Shanti Bhavan for nearly 7 months and is thriving amongst her other classmates. Kasthuri is an intelligent child who has found a place where she is accepted, wanted, and cherished. Kasthuri finally has a home where she belongs.
